A Story About Each Room at Kiho Gorilla Safari Lodge

Every memory creates a moment!

Handsome Francolin Suite

The name is inspired by the rear handsome francolin which is a ground-dwelling partridge bird of the pheasant family, endemic only to Bwindi forest.

Pairs and small groups of handsome francolins have been encountered in Ruhija, in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park very close to Kiho Gorilla Safari Lodge. The suite features an indoor lounge area, a foyer-cum-mudroom and handcrafted furniture to make your stay with us comfortable.

Colobus Suite

This suite is named after the black and white colobus monkeys that like hanging out near the suite. These monkeys have a black coat with a white stripe on the side of their bodies, limbs, face and tail. They live in groups of 5-15 members led by a male.

They are herbivore primates with a gestation period of 4-6 months. Please do not feed the monkeys when they hang around your room. The suite has a forest view, a private balcony fitted with two sun loungers, and a hardwood table.

Kaganga Suite

The suite derives its name, Kaganga meaning The Giant one, from a silverback in the Uruzogo family of Ruhija.

Just like the silverback, this is a giant suite with an kingsize double bed and cozy fireplace to warm you up on chilly nights. It features a walk-in closet plus dressing room. The window drapes and curtains, made out of colorful African design fabric popularly known as kitenge to accentuate the ambiance.

Rukara Suite

Rukara, an immigrant silverback from the Bitukura family group invaded the Kyaguliro family and took over leadership after the unfortunate death of the dominant silverback, Rukina. For his strong will and foresight, he deserves to be honored, hence the Rukara suite.

Imagine an overnight stay in the Rukara suite, then tracking the Kyaguliro family in the morning with the rear chance of looking into Rukara’s deep, dark eyes!

Rukumu Two Beds Suite

Fitted with two standard beds, this twin suite is named after the 3rd silverback of the Bitukura gorilla family, resident of Ruhija. Oftentimes, friends travel together to places far away and opt to share accommodation.

With this room, you can chat with your buddy into the night and still be assured of your personal space. How about sitting in front of the indoor fireplace covered with a snuggly blanket recounting the highlights of your gorilla trek?

Jackson Chameleon Suite

This suite is named after the rear and endangered Jackson’s chameleons endemic to the Albertine Region. These little reptiles, which can be found in areas surrounding our lodge, spot 3 horns and live at an altitude ranging from 1,700 meters and upwards, above sea level.

Unlike other chameleons that lay eggs, female Jackson’s chameleons give birth to live offspring. Just like the chameleons’ coats, some bedding in this suite are turquoise.

Mukiza Suite

It was named after the Mukiza mountain gorilla family, which, until recently, was part of the Kyaguliro One. The break-away family, known as Mukiza, nests close to Kiho Gorilla Safari Lodge.

This suite is suitable for triple occupancy as it has one king-size and one standard bed. It is also located in a perfect spot for bird watching as several Albertine Rift endemics can be seen from here.

Njojo Honeymoon Suite

Njojo, in the local Kiga dialect, means elephant. The name is inspired by the elephants that regularly visit the surroundings of this suite, especially during the wet season. Coincidentally, this suite is also significantly larger than the rest or, should we say, as big as an elephant?

It is six meters by eight and a half meters and made extra cosy for honeymooners or guests celebrating special events.

Bitukura Cottage – 2 Bedrooms

Named in honour of the first gorilla family in the Ruhija sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, the Bitukura family was first sighted in 2007 near a river by the same name. The family is known to be very peaceful, just like this suite.

Book it for your family and enjoy quiet far away from a world that never stops moving. The secondary vegetation comprising of bush and shrubs more than makes up for the lack of forest view.

Kyaguliro Cottage – One Bedroom

The name is inspired by the Kyaguliro gorilla family comprising of 21 members. This family was previously under the leadership of a silverback called Rukina and upon his death, Rukara an immigrant silverback from the Bitukura family took over.

The suite has a separate bedroom, kitchen, satellite TV and sofa beds. It is recommended for families especially with younger children.
